Travelling to Arran often means planning around ferry times. At Wildwood Croft we offer extended arrival and departure times, giving you more time to enjoy your stay.

Good to know

Minimum stay

We have a two-night minimum stay year-round, as we believe the best experiences take a little time to enjoy. If you're an Arran resident or have a special request, please get in touch; we're always happy to help where we can.

Additional guests

Additional guests require approval before a booking is confirmed or amended. A small charge may apply for extra bedding unless you're bringing your own.

Pets

We believe we're happiest when our animal family is happy too, so well-behaved pets are very welcome. Whether it's a dog, cat, or even a parrot, we'd love to meet them!

The only exception is reptiles and arachnids. As much as we appreciate them, Wildwood Croft is surrounded by native wildlife, and we'd like to avoid any accidental escapes or the introduction of non-native species into the local environment.

Travel insurance

As Arran is reached by ferry, we strongly recommend taking out travel insurance in case of unexpected disruption due to weather, ferry cancellations, illness or other unforeseen circumstances.

Ferry disruption & refunds

We know that travelling to an island can sometimes bring the unexpected. While ferry disruption is relatively uncommon, strong winds or technical issues can occasionally affect sailings, particularly during the winter months.

If high winds or other disruption are forecast to affect your journey to or from Arran, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We'll always do our best to help and, where possible, may be able to offer flexible arrangements to minimise disruption to your plans.

If your ferry is cancelled and you're unable to reach Arran, we'll happily offer you either:

a full refund, less any non-refundable payment processing fees, or
the opportunity to transfer your booking to another available date.

If you're unable to leave the island because of cancelled sailings, don't worry. We always leave at least one night free after every booking, so if your stay needs to be extended, you're welcome to remain in the cabin for 50% of the standard nightly rate, subject to availability and the ongoing disruption.

There is often an alternative route to Arran via Claonaig–Lochranza, travelling through the beautiful scenery of Loch Lomond, Arrochar, the Rest and Be Thankful, and Loch Fyne. Depending on the circumstances and the time of year, this route may allow guests to continue their journey when the main Ardrossan–Brodick service is disrupted.

Other cancellations

We understand that unexpected situations do arise. If you find yourself needing to cancel, please get in touch with us as soon as possible, and we'll always do our best to help.

If you cancel your booking 10 or more days before your arrival date, we will refund 50% of your total booking fee.

If we can re-book all or part of your cancelled stay, we will refund the equivalent proportion of your booking fee, up to the full amount paid, less any non-refundable payment processing fees.

If you cancel less than 10 days before your arrival date and we are unable to re-book the cancelled dates, no refund will be issued.

A few things to know before you arrive

The Treehouse Cabin is designed to immerse you in nature, and that does mean it's a little removed from the car park. Once you've reached the cabin, everything is conveniently arranged on a single level. Access is via a short uphill path and two short flights of steps (approximately 10 steps each), both with sturdy handrails.

If you're travelling with heavy luggage, we also have some excellent wheelbarrows (surprisingly effective!), and we're always happy to help transport your bags to the cabin.

Through our own family's experiences, accessibility is something close to our hearts, so if you have any questions or concerns about mobility or access, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We're always happy to answer questions honestly, provide additional photos or measurements if helpful, and help in any way we can. We'd much rather have a conversation before you book than have you arrive to find the access isn't quite what you expected.

If the walk to the cabin feels like it might be a barrier, we're very happy to collect you and your luggage in our farm UTV. It may not be the most glamorous taxi service on Arran, but it's reliable, a bit of an adventure, and gets the job done! The UTV carries one passenger alongside the driver and takes you to the closest point possible, leaving a short (approximately 15-metre) uphill path to the cabin entrance. If there is more than one of you, we'll happily make a couple of trips. Just let us know roughly when you'll be arriving or returning.

We're continually looking for ways to improve access across Wildwood Croft, including sourcing all-terrain mobility equipment and electric buggies. As Wildwood Croft grows, accessibility will continue to be part of our planning. Our next guest accommodation, a handcrafted 16-foot yurt, is being designed with step-free access to the entrance, bathroom and kitchen areas, helping ensure more people have the opportunity to experience these beautiful green and blue spaces.

Our two friendly ponies (Loki & Tieko) are free-range and roam around all parts of the 40-acre croft, so you'll often see them grazing in the fields below the cabin. They're part of life at Wildwood Croft, and many guests enjoy watching them from the veranda.

If you're nervous around horses, please let us know before you arrive. We'll make sure they're in another field or give you plenty of space while you're settling in.

As with all farm animals, please do not feed the ponies unless you have asked us first. Also, please do not stand or walk behind them.

Wildwood Croft is also home to our three dogs (Sula, Copper & Koda), and one rather independent cat (Trixie)! You may see them around the croft, although we do our best to ensure they don't disturb your stay.

If you're uncomfortable around dogs or have allergies, please just let us know. We'll make sure they aren't near the cabin or the path up to it when you arrive, or that they don't disturb your stay. We're always happy to accommodate where we can.

One of the joys of staying at Wildwood Croft is experiencing truly dark skies. With very little light pollution, the stars are spectacular and, if you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights or a passing meteor shower.

Outside of the long summer days, we recommend bringing a head torch and sturdy walking shoes if you're planning to be out after dark, particularly on cloudy nights or during a new moon. On clear nights with a full moon, however, it's astonishing just how much you can see.

The Treehouse Cabin has a sensor light on the steps and a handful of low-level lights along the top path. Beyond that, the paths are intentionally left unlit to help protect local wildlife while preserving the peace, darkness and beauty of Arran's night skies.

Take a moment to let your eyes adjust, listen to the trees and the waves, and look up. We think it's one of the most magical parts of staying here.

One of the things guests love most about Wildwood Croft is its tranquillity. We do have farm animals, of course, but aside from them, birdsong, rustling leaves, and the occasional owl, there's very little to disturb the peace. To help preserve that atmosphere for wildlife, our neighbours and future guests, we ask that music and noise are kept to a minimum after 10 pm.

Although the Treehouse Cabin is entirely off-grid, you'll still enjoy modern comforts, including electricity and hot water. Mobile phone coverage is generally good for light use, with most guests able to access 4G or 5G, although this depends on your network provider and the weather. We also hope to offer Wi-Fi in the near future.

That said, many guests tell us they take the opportunity to switch off for a while and enjoy the peace.

The Treehouse Cabin is powered by our off-grid solar system, with battery storage and occasionally generator backup when needed. You'll have everything you need for a comfortable stay, including lighting, refrigeration, and charging for phones, laptops, and other small devices.

To help protect the system, high-power appliances such as plug-in hairdryers aren't suitable (travel hairdryers 700w or less are fine). We do provide a rechargeable hairdryer, with full instructions in the cabin.

Our water comes fresh from the hillside, naturally filtered through the earth and rock, before exiting through rock about 100m above the cabin. We benefit from having no livestock or earthworks above us; however, we still ensure it is filtered twice before being treated with UV, then pumped directly to you. We have our water tested twice annually and perform spot checks on the water, filter, and UV once a month.

The cabin has a modern rain shower and a Separett composting waterless toilet. It's clean, odour-free, and simple to use. To help it work effectively, we ask all guests (including men) to sit down when using the toilet.

The kitchenette includes a fridge with a freezer compartment, a stovetop kettle, cookware, crockery and utensils, together with a small gas oven and two-burner hob. There isn't a toaster or grill, but we've tried to provide everything you need to prepare simple meals.

If you'd like to make the most of the outdoors, there's also a fire pit below the cabin with a grill, perfect for cooking beneath the trees on a fine evening

The Treehouse Cabin is raised among the trees, and the balcony is approximately 10 feet above the sloping ground below. While a gate is fitted at the top of the stairs, the balcony itself is not designed for climbing. We kindly ask that children - and any adults with a sense of adventure! - are closely supervised at all times and that guests do not climb or sit on the balcony railings or attempt to access the neighbouring beech tree.

Guests use the balcony and stairs at their own risk and are responsible for supervising children at all times.

Your safety and the wellbeing of the tree are important to us.

Like much of the west coast of Scotland, midges can make an appearance, particularly on still, warm and humid days.

The Treehouse Cabin's elevated balcony often enjoys fewer midges than at ground level, and when there's even a gentle breeze, we've found them completely absent (bliss!). On still, muggy days, however, while there are usually fewer than at ground level, they're never entirely gone.

We provide a selection of midge-repellent products and insect screens, though you may prefer to bring your own favourite repellent if you have one that works well for you.

Wildwood Croft is home to an abundance of wildlife. Depending on the season and a little luck, you may spot red squirrels, deer, buzzards, herons and a wide variety of woodland birds. A barn owl is an occasional evening visitor and, when dolphins visit the bay, they often swim surprisingly close to the shoreline below the cabin.

Because this is a working croft, you'll also be sharing the land with our ponies, dogs and cat. We simply ask that wildlife is observed from a respectful distance so everyone can continue to enjoy this special place.
